A bishop, a visionary, a bold man, a founder… and a Saint!

The Centre d'animation François-de Laval, created in 1993 by the Séminaire de Québec, aims to make known and love the life, works and spirituality of New France's first bishop, François de Laval.
To attain its mission, the Centre concentrates its efforts on four actions:
Promoting and conceiving different documents presenting the Saint with many ways of communication.
Broadcasting by answering the diverse requests from all around the world for relics and prayers and other documents. The Centre initiates and promotes celebrations and different activities at the funeral chapel of Saint François de Laval located in the Notre-Dame de Québec Cathedral. Selling various items is another way of spreading this devotion in the homes and institutions.
Animating activities school, parish or pilgrim groups either in the cathedral, at the funeral chapel, within theme-based walking-tours or in the specially arranged Centre. The staff elaborates adapted and diversified animation tools, such as projections, tours, rallies, or conferences so as to extend its reach and touch a more vast public.
Informing by amassing various writings by François de Laval to transform the Centre into a reference centre and promote research.
Since 1993, the Centre François-de Laval has welcomed thousands of visitors wishing to explore the permanent exhibition (open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). The Centre can also be used to host school or parish groups for specially adapted events of various types. Learn more…
The On-site Experience…
The Centre is located in the Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral, site of the funeral chapel dedicated to Saint François de Laval and of his tomb, and of the crypt that houses the remains of every bishop who presided over the destiny of the Québec diocese over its 400-year history. The actual home of François de Laval – the place where he realized his extensive achievements – is located nearby.
