François de Laval

A bishop, a visionary, a bold man, a founder… and a Saint!

Our activities

For nearly 20 years, the Centre d’animation François de Laval welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Our premises hold a permanent exhibition and welcomes visitors and school or parish groups who come to participate in different adapted animations. Call us now!

The Centre is located in the Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral, site of the funeral chapel dedicated to Saint François de Laval, and of the crypt that houses the remains of every bishop who presided over the destiny of the Québec diocese over its 400-year history. The actual home of François de Laval - the place where he realized his extensive achievements - is located nearby.

We receive correspondence requesting information and documentation from both within Canada and abroad. Testimonials from people who were affected by this extraordinary man are also sent from within Canada, Europe, the United States and Mexico, and even from Africa.

We travel to various locations to all sorts of requests: to lead youth groups, speak at gatherings, run retreats, deliver presentations, etc. We can help you develop the activity you are working on or refer you to high-caliber contacts.

Schools

Within the Social Universe program given to 4th grade classes of Québec, the pupils find out the founders of New France.  François de Laval, first bishop of Québec, is among these.

Since 2006, the guides of the Centre d'animation François-de Laval go from school to school in Québec to make known this character of Québec history.

Among the activities are a PowerPoint presentation, disguise in New France costumes, object manipulation, François de Laval's flag and coat of arms, gift drawing, and more!

Schools that visit the Centre can discover the Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral, François de Laval's funeral chapel, his tomb, and the underground cemetery where were buried past bishops for no extra charge.

Parishes

Many parishes now offer processes in Christian formation and preparatory classes for the sacrament of Confirmation.

François de Laval should be an unavoidable model for youngsters, their parents and adults in formation because of his determination, his ingenuity and his daring.  His works, that mark civil and religious history still today, show the great love he had for this American land, its settlers and God.

The Centre offers different activities in its premises or in parishes: PowerPoint presentation, New France costumes, coat of arms, and more.
